Technology Highlights
- The invention provides a personal search engine implemented on a webpage secured by a one-click social networking service (SNS) login or an email-and-password authentication mechanism. When a user submits a query for a target term via an external search engine, the returned search results trigger the activation of a web crawler.
- The invention employs a web crawler that can be initiated and terminated via a control button within a web browser. Additionally, the index data of a website may be expanded by launching the web crawler from a designated start URL.
- The invention provides that websites collected by the web crawler are added to a database through a single user action. In addition, the same interface that operates the web crawler includes functionality for searching the collected websites.
- The invention enables the acquisition of information that is not readily obtainable through conventional web search engines. It further allows researchers and users requiring extensive information to freely expand, manage, and organize the data relevant to their specific interests.
- The invention enables a one-click social networking service (SNS) login function to be executed on a mobile information terminal such as a personal computer or smartphone that is equipped with a web browser.
- The invention provides that a list of search result URLs is obtained from an external search engine. However, neither the list itself nor the websites identified by the URLs are displayed.
- The invention provides a web crawler that is activated by pressing a button to initiate crawling based on a list of search result URLs. The web crawler extracts and collects website metadata, including titles, keywords, descriptions, summaries, and related information. In addition, the web crawler may initiate crawling from a user-specified URL.
- The invention provides for the collection and storage of website data by the web crawler. From the same interface, users are able to search the websites collected by the web crawler. Data obtained through crawling using an SNS login function or an email-based login function is protected and is not disclosed to third parties.
- The invention recognizes that general web search engines index only a small portion of all Internet sites, approximately 4%. Moreover, even when individual crawling is performed, rare or valuable websites that are listed in general web search engines can be difficult to identify.
